My
experience with a Huntsville HVAC contractor.
My
new in-home studio, south end.

End
My
studio is on the second floor and is cooled by a Trane heat pump which supplies
cooling to the main room, the small attached bath, and the stairwell
leading up to it. Not exactly a challenge in terms of HVAC
engineering, but...
-
When
the outdoor daytime temperatures are in the mid to upper 80s, the
temperature in this room rises to the mid 70s.
-
On
hot days the temperature in this room approaches 80
degrees.
-
The
heat pump runs
continuously when
daytime outdoor temperatures are in the mid 80s affecting our electric
bill accordingly. Is that what they mean in their TV ads when they
say "it's hard to stop a Trane"?
-
When
the studio heats up we
close it off to keep it from
adding to the heat load of the rest of the house.
-
When
I need to work in there, I use a fan
to
make it seem cooler.
-
When
we're not using the room, we turn the thermostat up and close the doors
to
reduce the continuous wear and
tear on the heat
pump.

The
HVAC contractor, after sending
people out five times, says
the system is performing as it should and does not recognize any further
obligation on their part. Could it be that the system they
installed is too small? They said it's right on and , to them,
this is a satisfactory job.

This
was going to be our dream home. Some dream.
Pick
your contractor carefully. You
will have to live with what
they do, not them. |
